BioJonathan Bauerfeld is a New York based musical theater composer, orchestrator, music director, and certified vocal coach. He has worked as a member of team music on and off Broadway and beyond, on shows such as HAMILTON, THE WHO'S TOMMY, KING KONG, and THE RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR. As a composer, Bauerfeld has been working with his collaborator Casey Kendall for the better part of a decade. Their most recent original musical, THE JURY, premiered as an Equity Showcase Production at the A.R.T. Gural Theatre in NYC. Their two shows, LIMBO: The Twelve, (now titled THE JURY) and LEGACY: The Book of Names both first premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to 4 and 5 star reviews, heralded as "everything you want in new musical theater," "exquisite and intricate," and "near perfect." Bauerfeld penned the score for SHORT SHAKESPEARE! THE COMEDY OF ERRORS at the Tony recognized Chicago Shakespeare Theater, and his 10 minute musical BOOK LOVERS with Talaura Harms - available to license with MTI - continues to enjoy many productions around the world.
As a music director, Bauerfeld uses his knowledge and love of writing to collaborate with composers of new musicals, often also serving as an arranger. He has music directed or associate music directed new and existing shows at The Berkeley Repertory Theater, The Kennedy Center, for several world premieres Off-Broadway, and has performed and worked with stars of the stage and screen such as Raúl Esparza, Bonnie Milligan, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Beanie Feldstein, SNL's Taran Killam, and more. As an orchestrator, his work has been heard across New York and beyond, including Off-Broadway, NYMF, the Actors Fund Gala, The Green Room 42, and Symphony Space. He has worked with many of the top talents in the industry, including Alex Lacamoire, Christopher Jahnke, and August Eriksmoen. As a copyist, Bauerfeld's work can be seen on stands across the country, working primarily with Anixter-Rice music service on several shows for Broadway, Radio City, and beyond. Bauerfeld started his career as a music assistant, working with some of the most well-respected composers on Broadway, including Stephen Flaherty, Pasek and Paul, Andrew Lippa, and Scott Frankel.
